Do you find yourself getting caught up in the whirlwind that is fashion trends only to wonder if they are right for your style? In a world of social media and FOMO, it’s very easy to fall into the trend trap. What happens when a fashion trend does not align with your personal values? Let’s dive into the denim maximum skirt phenomenon and see why some people, including myself, have chosen to stay away from it.

The denim maxi has been resurrected as the new minimalistic chic. Many have embraced this trend, showcasing the versatility and effortless elegance of denim. Yet, I am resistant. Why? Fit and comfort are two of the most important aspects to my personal style.

I’ve always been drawn to pieces that emphasize my natural waistline. The lower sit of most maxi-skirts is alien to my aesthetic. I believe in clothing that lets me move freely. I like to cross my legs and run up stairs without feeling restricted. The denim maxi, with its rigid fabric and straight cut, seems to contradict this need for flexibility.

The struggle with the waist/butt is real. Jeans are notoriously hard to fit, and I can’t imagine how uncomfortable it would be if a skirt didn’t stay in place without a defined gusset.

Is this a sign that you are sartorially shy? Perhaps. I think it’s about being true to yourself. Fashion should be a reflection of who we are and not something that is forced into a mold. It’s all about choosing comfort over imitation, individuality over conformity.

In a world where trends are determined by a swipe left or right, it is refreshing to take a moment and evaluate what works best for us. It’s more important to build a wardrobe that reflects your values and lifestyle than one that is dictated by trends.

As we navigate the ever-changing world of fashion, remember that it is okay to say “no”. It’s okay for you to choose comfort and fit over fashion trends. Fashion is a way to express yourself, and the style that feels most authentic is the one you feel most comfortable in.

“Fashion does not mean following trends, but rather wearing your personality. “ We invite you to join a community of people who value sustainable, comfortable and authentic style. Subscribe to our journey for fashion that fits and not just fits in. The best trends are those that make you feel like you.
